Campaign Issues
So many issues face HD52. Bernard is ready and able to tackle them and make our community a better place. He will work to ensure that our community is represented in the legislature and that our voices are heard.
Misinformation
Explore regulations that address algorithms that boost bot driven information instead of actual human beings. Create a nonpartisan clearing house that provides citizens a place to discern facts from fiction or rumor. Implement the Stanford-created "America in One Room" traveling road show to take on the top issues being debated by the state
Affordability/Housing
Continue many of the initiatives from the Governor and approved by the legislature, create codes for co-housing developments, incentivize ADU projects, reduce barriers to development, and incentivize innovative housing solutions like housing over big box stores and modular offsite constructed housing.
Economic Development
Capitalize on state's spectacular natural assets to draw business creation and growth, explore a sales tax for both revenue production but also reduced income taxes to make us more competitive with WA, leverage Oregon's abundant clean energy resources: water, wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass to create cheap plentiful energy to attract business of all stripes to make Oregon their home. Assess business cost and conditional challenges in the State's major job creation centers, Portland, Bend, Eugene, Salem to determine what can be improved to make them more competitive.
State Budget Challenges
Adopt kicker reform to capture more revenue from existing tax system, adopt a sales tax to leverage tourism revenue potential and give rebates to low income Oregonians to address regressivity, Explore PERS reform options to reduce burden on state payroll costs.
Youth Support/Development
Combating screen time. Social media companies are monetizing our children’s attention and making adults angrier, lonelier, and sadder. Kids spend less time outdoors and instead on algorithms that incentivize endless scrolling and antisocial behavior. These apps are delivering digital dopamine. Consider Australia’s response. Who’s going to raise our kids…adults or algorithms?
