Why I am running
Five reasons
- I like the work. I’ve been an elected official in my home town for over a year and I’m having a blast. The analysis, conversations, persuasion, and finding common ground has been extremely rewarding. I think I have a skill here.
- As an extrovert I really enjoy hanging with people of all stripes... even if we disagree, I still get energy.
- I have ideas on affordability, housing, forestry, energy production, infrastructure, and other public issues that I’d like to advocate for on behalf of you and all the organizations we are a part of.
- I’d like to use this office to provide an example for service to our community and ourselves. Whether it’s picking up litter, removing invasive shrubs, mentoring a kid, or cleaning a bus stop, I want to inspire our fellow Oregonians that you have agency in the place we call home. Let’s use that to better ourselves and our communities.
- I absolutely love Oregon and believe it has great things in its future if we can continue to improve our governance. Bottom line: I think I can make a positive difference.
Governing Philosophy
My governing philosophy is based on three concepts.
- Govern responsively and responsibly while acknowledging the inherent tensions. Responsive to the needs of voters and citizens and responsible to the critical infrastructure, systems, and institutions under the purview of State government. Example: Underfunding transportation infrastructure is irresponsible. One pothole can cause tens of thousands of dollars of damages to vehicle owners. A responsive leader pushes for the construction of more housing to respond to the citizens being weighted down by housing costs.
- For almost every issue we face there is a role for government and a role for the individual. I hope to instruct and inform the government’s role and inspire/empower the individuals role. Healthcare needs to be properly funded and individuals need to do what they can to live healthy lives. Both are critical to a healthy community.
- Govern with the virtues of honesty, empathy, courtesy, curiosity, patience, and goodwill… without them feeling like a weakness when extended to the other side.
